How to Create a QR Code for Wedding Photo Sharing
One QR code on the tables. Every guest's photos in one place.
QR codes have become the standard way to collect photos at weddings — guests are comfortable scanning them now, and the upload flow takes under a minute. The setup is straightforward, but there are a few things worth getting right to make sure it actually gets used on the day.
Step 1: Create your event
Sign up for Piccy and create an event for your wedding. You'll set the event dates (which controls when the upload window is open), give it a name, and choose your settings. The whole setup takes about two minutes.
Step 2: Download your QR code
Once your event is created, you get a unique QR code you can download as an image. This QR code links directly to your guest upload page — no extra steps for guests, no login required.
Step 3: Decide where to display it
The most effective placement is table cards — small printed cards on each table with the QR code, a short instruction ("Scan to share your photos"), and maybe a small personal message from you as a couple. Guests see them during the meal when they have time to scan.
Other good placements: the back of the order of service, a sign near the bar, or the top table. Somewhere with natural footfall and downtime.
Step 4: Tell guests about it
A QR code on the table is good. A QR code plus a mention during the speeches or a line in the order of service is significantly better. You don't need to make a big announcement — just a brief mention that there's a code on the tables for sharing photos is enough to double participation.
You can also share the direct link in your guest WhatsApp group the morning of the wedding so people have it before they even arrive.
How to print it well
QR codes need reasonable contrast and a minimum size to scan reliably. Anything below about 2.5cm square starts to cause problems on lower-end phone cameras. Black on white at 3–4cm is the safest option for table cards. Avoid putting the QR code over a busy background or in low-contrast colour combinations.
If you're using a designer for your wedding stationery, just send them the QR code image and ask them to include it. Most are familiar with this now.
What guests actually experience
When a guest scans the code, they're taken to a simple upload page in their browser. They enter their name (so you know whose photos are whose), select their photos, and tap upload. The whole thing takes about thirty seconds. Photos land in your album immediately.

Can I test the QR code before the wedding?
Yes — scan it yourself and do a test upload. It's worth doing this a few days before so you have time to fix anything.
What if a guest can't scan QR codes?
Every Piccy event also has a direct URL. You can share that link via WhatsApp or text for guests who prefer to use a link over a QR code.
Does the QR code expire?
The upload window is open for the duration of your event dates. After the event closes, the QR code still works for viewing but uploads are disabled.
